In this article, I will be talking about some methods you can use to open your account and be able to open Google Voice from Nigeria without any issues.

The History of Google Voice

For those that are unfamiliar with it, voice calling was one of Google’s first products.

It all started with a call from a computer scientist named Krishna Bharat at Stanford University.

He wanted to make free calls using his computer and he did just that.

He managed to get free long distance calls through a program called GrandCentral which he had built for himself.

In 2007, Google acquired GrandCentral and eventually changed its name to Google Voice.

The product has since been used by millions of people across the world and is widely considered as one of Google’s most successful acquisitions ever.

You can talk as long as you want and they only pay per second of usage.

Another cool feature of google voice is that it automatically transcribes messages into text so that when you are talking it is written out like a normal text message, but when someone else sends you a message, it shows as an audio file in your inbox.

Consider Funding

Once you’ve got a handle on what your company will do, it’s time to consider funding.

Unfortunately, many small businesses don’t get as far as securing seed money because they fail to give their ideas enough due diligence.

So how can you tell if your idea is worth putting your own money into? I’m not going to sugarcoat it:

You need a lot of energy and perseverance for any business, but especially for one that isn’t turning a profit yet.

If you’re patient and truly passionate about what you’re doing, however, these are all signs that you’ll be successful.

Select Location

  • Click your country. Your location will determine which features are available to you.
  • When you are ready, click Sign Up for a new number and follow these steps: Select a phone number you want to call from (you can’t keep your old number) and then click Continue.
  • Verify your account with a code that is sent by text message or voice call and then click Continue.
  • Forgot account info? Add contact information such as billing address, email address, etc.
  • Enter billing information (if necessary).
  • Enter credit card information, select currency or add-on services; then continue with the sign up process. Click Next Step when done and wait while they check all your info.
  • You’ll get an email verification that everything went through okay, which means you’re ready to roll.

Provide Area Code

Once your account is open, you’ll be provided with a phone number and an area code.

You can activate a new number by verifying your existing cell phone or landline number.

After entering a six-digit PIN, you’ll be directed through a few more steps that ask for personal information and billing details.

Alternatively, you can opt for online payment options (directly from your bank account or PayPal) instead of providing credit card details;

If so, follow the prompts to set up an automatic payment schedule based on how much time you want your Google Voice account active each month.

Once verified, that’s it.

You should now have access to SMS functionality on your Android device as well as normal voice functionality when making calls from within North America or Canada.

Final Thoughts

If you live in a country where Google Voice services are limited, you can try using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) provider.

With it, you can use an IP address that is connected to another country and access sites and services that are available only for users from your new location.

They’re not free but they can help you if Google’s services aren’t available where you are.
